Borreliosis - Lyme Disease |
|
|
It's a sad truth that people who love being out in the woods have more contact with ticks that may transmit the Borrelia Burgdorferi bacteria, or Erlichiosis, Babesiosis, and other tick borne diseases. If people don't have the "bull's-eye rash" after having been bitten by a tick or tiny tick nymph, they may not realize they need to consider Borreliosis as a source of their illness.
They may tough it out through a particularly achy "flu" and
are glad when it's over. Then, different problems start developing. |

These symptoms usually come and go, and vary from arthritic
to neurological to psychological. It has been discovered in people
whose single complaint was psychiatric illness, or after a gamut of
problems arose such as severe fatigue, muscle weakness, arthritis,
tingling and pain, memory loss, cognition difficulties, dyslexic writing,
hearing or vision problems, or loss of balance.
As the disease progresses, they may develop more and worsening symptoms. They have probably been to a doctor for one or more of the symptoms, and may even have received a Lyme test that was negative. Starting to realize that something is seriously wrong, they may end up going from doctor to doctor, or are treated for multiple problems as though they are separate conditions, rather than one systemic disease. They may be pegged as psychosomatic, or as a complainer. (I was personally told by five different doctors over as many years that I didn't have Lyme disease, three of whom said it was absolutely impossible based on one negative ELISA test.) In general, pain is usually the main difficulty with Borreliosis, with fatigue running a close second. The third main symptom is cognitive or brain problems, and blurry vision is the fourth. If you think you may have Borreliosis, or Lyme Disease, don't wait for it to go away. Hopefully, you don't have it, and are simply dealing with some separate issues that you will recover from with the help of your physician, your own immune system, and good health practices. There are many excellent sources of information on the Internet.
